Biochemistry I
This foundational course introduces students to the exciting world of biochemistry, bridging the gap between biology and chemistry. Through "Biochemistry-I", learners will delve deep into the molecular mechanisms that underpin the structure, function, and regulation of biologically significant molecules.
Key Topics:
- Basics of biochemistry.
- Structure and function of amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids.
- Enzymology: Mechanisms, kinetics, and regulation of enzyme activity.
- Metabolism pathways: Glycolysis, Krebs cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and the basics of lipid and amino acid metabolism.
- Bioenergetics: Thermodynamics in the biological context, ATP as the energy currency, and redox reactions.
- Introduction to hormone action, vitamins, and coenzymes.
The course will integrate lectures and discussions to elucidate the central concepts of biochemistry. By the end of the course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the chemical processes within and related to living organisms, setting the stage for advanced studies in the field.
